Adult beer league hockey game in Salt Lake City — Utah Glizzies in green jerseys attacking the net

Utah's hockey scene is having a moment. The Utah Mammoth's arrival brought an entire generation of new fans to the game — and a lot of them want to play, not just watch. If you've been searching for adult hockey leagues in Salt Lake City, you're not alone. This guide covers every option we know about, from beginner-friendly recreational leagues to more competitive beer league setups.

We're the Utah Glizzies — a D-league beer league team at Utah Mammoth Ice Center in Sandy — so we know this scene firsthand. Here's the real breakdown.

The Rinks: Where Utah Hockey Happens

Everything runs through the ice. Before you can find a league, you need to know which rinks are operating adult hockey programs in the Salt Lake valley.

Utah Mammoth Ice Center — Sandy, UT

The premier facility for adult hockey in the south valley. Home to multiple beer leagues across different skill levels and schedules. This is where we play. The rink runs weeknight and weekend leagues, and the facility is newer and well-maintained.

📍 10450 S. State Street, Sandy UT 84070 🏒 Multiple beer league divisions 🎯 All skill levels

Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center

Runs an adult hockey league on Sunday evenings (fall/winter) and weeknights in the summer. One of the most established recreational programs in the valley. Known for being welcoming to newer players.

📍 7500 S. 2700 E., Cottonwood Heights UT 🏒 Recreational adult league 🎯 Beginner to intermediate

Bountiful Recreation Center (BSHL)

Home of the Bountiful Senior Hockey League, which runs B and C division games for players 40+. Don't let "senior" scare you — it's a well-organized adult program with real competitive games.

📍 Bountiful, UT 🏒 B and C league divisions 🎯 Players 40+

Adult Leagues to Know About

Utah Rink Rat Society

An adult amateur (beer league) hockey organization based out of Utah County. The Rink Rats focus on making hockey accessible and social, with less emphasis on cutthroat competition and more on getting ice time and having a good time afterward.

📍 Utah County 🏒 Beer league / recreational

Utah Amateur Hockey Association

The umbrella organization for amateur hockey in Utah. If you're looking for more structured, affiliated leagues rather than casual beer league play, UAHA has resources and member organizations covering the full state.

Beer League Skill Levels Explained

If you're new to beer league, here's what the division letters actually mean in most Utah leagues:

If you're unsure, start lower. It's much better to dominate D than to get embarrassed in B and quit after three games.

How Much Does Adult Hockey Cost in Utah?

Costs vary by league and rink, but here's a rough framework:

What About the Utah Mammoth Effect?

The Utah Hockey Club's arrival in the NHL in 2024 (later rebranded the Utah Mammoth) has done something real for the local hockey community. Adult hockey registrations are up across the valley. Rinks that were running one or two beer league divisions are adding more. The D-league at Utah Mammoth Ice Center — where we play — was sold out well before the season started.

The window to get in on Utah's growing hockey scene is right now. A year from now, wait lists will be longer and spots will be harder to find. (Want the full story of how it happened? Read how the Utah Mammoth turned Utah into a hockey state.)

Tips for Finding Your First Beer League Team in Utah

  1. Call the rink directly. Most adult leagues are managed at the rink level, not through a central website. Call Utah Mammoth Ice Center, Cottonwood Heights Rec, or your nearest rink and ask what adult programs they run.
  2. Show up as a free agent. Many leagues have spots for free agents — players without a team who get placed on a roster that needs bodies. Tell them your level and availability.
  3. Try pickup hockey first. Some rinks run pickup sessions where you can skate alongside adults of various levels before committing to a full season. It's also a good way to meet people who might invite you onto a team.
  4. Follow local hockey accounts. Instagram accounts for Utah rinks and local hockey clubs often post when league registrations open. Follow us — we share what we know about the local scene.
  5. Check GameSheet. Several Utah leagues post their schedules and standings on GameSheet. Browsing team names gives you a sense of the culture at each league.

Utah's hockey scene is still developing — which means it's still easy to get in before it gets crowded. Go find your league. The ice is waiting.
